Why local details matter for a generator
A generator is the same machine in Kinston as in Havelock, but the job around it changes from town to town.
- Power company. Many eastern NC towns run their own municipal electric utility, rural areas are often on electric cooperatives, and much of the rest is Duke Energy Progress. The transfer switch works with all of them.
- Fuel. Natural gas reaches many homes inside towns, from Piedmont Natural Gas or a city gas system. Rural homes usually use propane.
- Permits. Some cities issue their own electrical permits; elsewhere the county does. The installer pulls the right permit for your address.
- Flood zones. Homes near the Neuse, Tar, Pamlico, Trent and their creeks may need the generator raised to meet floodplain rules.
